Network: CONNECTING – H2020 innovation action

With an adieu to TURAS in September 2016, we have had the good fortune to be on the winning team of another large international consortium showcasing projects and  building skills around the theme of Nature Based Solutions.  What are Nature Based Solutions? What will CONNECTING do?  To quote from the horse’s mouth, from the project proposal:

“The overarching objective of CONNECTING is to position Europe as a global leader in the innovation and implementation of nature-based solutions. The project partners will form a community of cities fostering peer-to-peer, transdisciplinary capacity building between front-runner, fast-follower and multiplier cities within a ‘transitioning, innovation and governance academy’.  This academy will co-develop the policy and practices necessary to scale up urban resilience, innovation and governance via nature-based solutions. An open innovation ecosystem approach bringing together city governments, SMEs, academia and civic society will be used to co-produce usable and actionable knowledge in all cities. CONNECTING will provide the reference framework for a new generation of urban nature-based solution processes and empower transitioning ambassadors who will globalise this approach…”

The team is led by Trinity College Dublin and includes partners such as Glasgow City Council, ICLEI, Drift (Dutch Research Institute for Transitions), the City of Genk (BE), the City of Poznan, University of East London, University of Humboldt, colleagues from Bioazul and some twenty others spanning the globe.  The project will kick off early 2017 – more information to follow.
