Many of the ideas, processes and tools that OSMOS uses have been developed by TURaS, a large-scale research programme on urban resilience and sustainability. TURaS is particular in that it has brought together research from different fields with local public authorities and SMEs: it is therefore not only a research project but also a precious network spanning a large number of cities and regions all over Europe.
Nine leading academic research institutions and eight SMEs have worked with public sector bodies helping them to reduce their urban ecological footprint through proposing new visions, strategies, spatial scenarios and guidance tools to help cities address these challenges. Over the five year duration of the project, the feasibility of these new approaches have be examined and results compared between participating cities.
